An Invitation to Stewardship from Rev. Riley
It is easy to see the generosity in our community at St. Dunstan’s. From the time and energy people give in their volunteer roles, to the financial gifts given, and from the skills people offer to our community – we are rich in generosity. What is also clear is that what our community gives is rooted in a deep and abiding faith. Our giving is not out of guilt or responsibility, but a deeply faith-fill generosity.

We are also giving while living in the midst of stressful times in the world around us. From political divide and economic uncertainty, there are many external pressures affecting all of us. It is no small thing in this climate to give to the church. It is an extraordinary gift that you give, to support the work and efforts of our faith community.

This stewardship season we return to our annual pledge campaign, and the invitation to everyone in our community to support the ministry and work of St. Dunstan’s. I invite you to prayerfully consider how you are called to support the life and ministry of our faith community.

As we prepare our budget for 2027, despite every effort to keep our numbers lean, we expect about a $20,000 increase in our expenses. This number is largely due to payroll and benefits with an increased COLA (cost of living allocation) of 3.5%. We also anticipate a decrease in our income from outside facility rentals and non-pledged income. These expenses are unavoidable, and part of a larger trend of increased expenses in many corners of our lives.

For many of you this is a continuation of what you are already doing to support the church. For all that you already give - thank you. Our community is built on the time, treasure, and talents of a deeply committed community, and we are so grateful.

For some this might be the first invitation to financially giving to your faith community. Every gift in every size supports the flourishing of our community. You are invited to give as a spiritual practice. Each of us has gifts to share with the world, and Christ invites us to do just that: to give out of our own abundance for our mutual flourishing.

Thank you for your deep and faith-filled generosity. We are blessed by the gifts that sustain us, and grateful for every way you support this community.
